IRCC Invites 3200 in Canadian Experience Class Draw This Week

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its second Express Entry draw in August, issuing 3,200 invitations to potential candidates in Canadian Experience Class this month. In the latest invitation round, candidates must have a score of at least 509 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) in order to receive an invitation. This is the second draw of the week, the three previous Canadian Experience Class draws taking place on May 31, July 17 and July 31.

The 5,000 candidates were invited in the Canadian Experience Class on July 31 with the minimum requirement score of 510 in Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) would be considered. On July 17 the invitation went to 6,300 candidates with the minimum CRS score of 515 and on May 31 IRCC invited 3,000 candidates and the score to be considered would be 522 in CRS. This has been the busiest month for Express Entry draws. Normally, IRCC conducts a draw once in every two weeks and can issue almost two to four per month. There were four in April, and February was the busiest month with 6 draws released by IRCC.

How Express Entry works

IRCC uses Express Entry to manage applications for three of the main economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

Established in 2015, Express Entry invites the best candidates to join the workforce that Canada requires. However, there could be differences in the eligibility criteria for each program; all potential candidates are evaluated within the same Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The criteria include age, language ability, education, work experience, and an attested occupation, in which a candidate has to be assessed to receive a point scoring. The more the score, the brighter the chances for you to receive an invitation to apply in the draws after that.

The cut-off of 509 in CRS is lower than the previous draws that happened in the month of July, continuing the trend of high cutoff scores but showing a small downward adjustment. This could indicate a slightly less competitive pool or a strategic decision by IRCC to lower the threshold.

The highest cut-off score for a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw in 2024 was 522 on 31st of May, 2024, making the recent 509 score slightly lower but it’s still indicating a highly competitive applicant draw.
