Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has invited 1,000 candidates in its latest Express Entry draw to apply with a targeted invitation for French-speaking candidates. This goes on and further renews Canada’s continued interest in attracting a pool of skilled professionals so as to contribute to the diverse and dynamic workforce of the country.
In the latest Express Entry draw, IRCC invited 1,000 ITAs to candidates with strong French language abilities. The latest draw held on 13 September is a representative of Canada’s commitment to bilingualism and how seriously it takes French proficiency in the immigration system.
The Express Entry system is the main way Canada manages applications for PR status under some economic immigration programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates are ranked according to a number of factors that include, but are not limited to, age, education, work experience, and language proficiency. Candidates with the highest ranking are invited to apply for permanent residency.
In sum, IRCC concentrates its efforts on the selection of more French-speaking candidates as a strategic way of continuing the development of the French-speaking communities in Canada, especially in provinces like Quebec, where it is an official language. By targeting French speakers, Canada is able to maintain much-hyped bilingualism for the fulfillment of aspiration among its French-speaking population.
French proficiency could be an added advantage in the Express Entry system. Applicants with high proficiency in the French language, amongst other qualifying aspects, are accorded more points in the Comprehensive Ranking System, which adds merit to their hope for an ITA.

This draw is a very promising opportunity for permanent residency in Canada, especially for French-speaking candidates. Candidates invited through ITA will now be allowed to submit their applications for permanent residence, with complete documentation and proof of qualifications.
The issuance of 1,000 ITAs is a signal that IRCC continues to strive for the inclusion of diversified pools of skilled workers to contribute to the economic growth of Canada. This also demonstrates that language skills continue to play an increasingly important role in immigration, particularly bilingualism to support the multicultural and multilingual society of Canada.
Candidates desirous of improving their chances in forthcoming draws through ITA must work on improvement in language. The candidates who are targeting French can achieve a good score in either Test de connaissance du français or the Diplôme de français professionnel. They can also have an updated profile that continuously reflects work experience as well as highest education and qualification. This will further improve their standing in the Express Entry pool.
This is a big step taken by the immigration strategy of Canada, which requires mentioning linguistic diversity and skilled professional incorporation into the country’s workforce. The issuance of 1,000 ITAs to the French-speaking candidates is one great opportunity that French-speaking individuals should consider by ensuring that their profiles are competitive to further the expectation of receiving an invitation in future draws.
The best working out of the Canadian dream will be to keep pace with changing immigration landscapes and to understand the subtleties of the Express Entry system for prospective immigrants.
