The IRCC is targeting the admission of 110,770 new permanent residents through Express Entry in 2024 and 117,500 in 2025. Candidates invited toward the second half of the year are expected to contribute more significantly toward achieving the 2025 target because of IRCC’s six-month processing standard for complete Express Entry applications.

Express Entry is an immigration framework that administers applications for three major economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Candidates are scored and ranked according to a number of human capital factors in the Comprehensive Ranking System, which includes

  • Occupation
  • work experience
  • Age
  • Education
  • language skills

And additional factors such as having a spouse or sibling in Canada. The total CRS score will be the sum of points assigned to each factor; therefore, a higher score means a better chance of receiving an ITA for permanent residency in Canada.
