Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 1,121 Invitations in the first draw of the week. It was exclusively for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw candidates. Where a minimum score of 694 points is required under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) in PNP draw was required to qualify.
IRCC hosted a set of Express Entry draws between August 13 to August 15. The last draw was held on 15th August, when IRCC invited 2,000 candidates in a French Language Proficiency draw with the minimum required CRS of 394. On August 13, an invitation went to 763 candidates under the PNP with a minimum score of 690. On August 14, the draw was limited to 3,200 CEC candidates with a minimum score of 509.
IRCC has recently followed a pattern of having multiple draws every other week. Recently, IRCC has focused more on the PNP and CEC draws. This means it is aligning with its strategy to increase domestic draws to control the number of temporary residents in Canada, while meeting the permanent resident targets set in the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026.

The IRCC is targeting the admission of 110,770 new permanent residents through Express Entry in 2024 and 117,500 in 2025. Candidates invited toward the second half of the year are expected to contribute more significantly toward achieving the 2025 target because of IRCC’s six-month processing standard for complete Express Entry applications.
Express Entry is an immigration framework that administers applications for three major economic immigration programs:
Candidates are scored and ranked according to a number of human capital factors in the Comprehensive Ranking System, which includes but is not limited to occupation, work experience, age, education, language skills, and additional factors such as having a spouse or sibling in Canada.
The total CRS score will be the sum of points assigned to each factor; therefore, a higher score means a better chance of receiving an ITA for permanent residency in Canada. In May 2023, IRCC announced that they would now also release invitations based on pre-selected occupation or language skill criteria.
