3 Provinces Invited Candidates in Most Recent PNP Draws

Invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued by Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Prince Edward Island to candidates through Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) this week. Territories and provinces operate their PNPs, except for Quebec and Nunavut.

For provincial nomination, candidates who are interested may be invited to apply through these programs. For getting a permanent residence, those who have received provincial nomination may have an advantage. 105,000 PR admissions per year are accounted for by the Provincial Nominee Program. This program started in 1998 and yearly PNP admissions have increased steadily since.

For promoting economic development outside of urban centers, it is considered an effective tool by both federal and provincial governments. Recently, two Express Entry draws are held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) this month, including a draw this week, in which ITAs are received by only PNP candidates. Candidates with the necessary skills and education to help with local labour shortages and contribute to provincial economies are targeted by individual provinces with the help of PNPs.

February 11-17 Provincial Immigration Results

Prince Edward Island

Through the Labour and Express Entry stream of the PEI PNP, Prince Edward Island invited 222 candidates on February 16. With a minimum point threshold of 70, six candidates were also invited through the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur.

Separate Expression of Interest (EOI) to the PEI PNP must be submitted by Express Entry candidates who wish to be nominated by PEI. A score based on PEI’s points grid is awarded by EOI profiles and, the highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply through monthly draws just like the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

British Columbia

British Columbia invited more than 232 candidates on February 14 to apply for provincial nomination. In a draw targeted at tech occupations, the province invited 183 candidates. The invitations were issued to candidates in International Graduates and Skilled Worker categories and included Express Entry candidates.

A minimum SIRS score of 83 is required by candidates in all the categories. SIRS score system is somewhat similar to the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) but it is only used for the BC PNP. Skilled immigration in British Columbia is comprised of 5 streams for people with diverse skills and experience.

Express Entry BC option is provided by 4 of these streams. The fifth stream is for Semi-Skilled and Entry-Level, which means they lack work experience within an eligible NOC code for Express Entry.

The rounds of invitations were also held for candidates working in the below-mentioned occupations by the province:

  • 29 early childhood educators and assistants with scores of at least 60 points,
  • 20 healthcare workers from the International Graduate and Skilled Worker categories including Express Entry category, with scores of minimum 60 points.
  • Other occupations with scores of minimum 60 points.

Saskatchewan

On February 16, the first Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) draw for 2023 took place. 243 candidates were invited under the Occupations-In-Demand and 177 candidates were invited by province, under the Express Entry stream. A minimum score of 84 is required from Candidates of both streams.
