The province of Newfoundland and Labrador has invited a new group of candidates to apply for immigration in its latest draw held on August 13. Invitations were sent out under the Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) as well as the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
This brings the total number of invitations issued in 2025 to 1,675 under NLPNP and 374 through the AIP.
At the beginning of the year, the federal government reduced Newfoundland and Labrador’s immigration quota to 1,050 PNP spots, down from 2,100 in 2024. In February, the province successfully negotiated an additional 1,000 spaces, raising the total to 2,050.
The AIP quota stayed the same at 475 spaces. After this round, the province still has 375 PNP spaces and 101 AIP spaces left to distribute in 2025.
This draw is the seventh round to take place since Newfoundland and Labrador introduced its Expression of Interest (EOI) system earlier this year.
The old model of first-come, first-served applications was replaced due to high demand. Under the new approach, candidates must submit an online profile showcasing their skills and background. The provincial authorities then select candidates who match current labour market requirements and issue invitations accordingly.
Those chosen can proceed to apply for a provincial nomination through the NLPNP or receive a certificate of endorsement under the AIP.
The Atlantic Immigration Program is a permanent residence pathway for newcomers aiming to settle in one of Canada’s Atlantic provinces Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.
Applicants need a job offer from a designated employer and must meet certain requirements related to education, work experience, and language. International graduates from recognized Atlantic institutions are also eligible, even without prior work experience, if they fulfill the other criteria.
Endorsed candidates can apply to the federal government for permanent residency and may receive a temporary work permit while waiting for their PR application to be finalized.
