Alberta records second-highest draw of the year with 1,100+ invitations

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) issued 1,125 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for provincial nomination last week through two separate draws. Candidates were invited based on their AAIP ranking scores, ties to the province and, in some cases, professional backgrounds in priority healthcare occupations.

Draw results – November 10 to 14

The two draws targeted different AAIP streams and featured separate cut-off scores:

The November 10 draw was the second-largest AAIP draw of the year, and the biggest since September 12, when 1,113 candidates were invited.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

The Alberta Opportunity Stream continues to be the most utilized pathway under the AAIP, designed for temporary foreign workers already living and working full-time in Alberta. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements related to job offer conditions, valid work permit status, occupation, language, education, and Alberta work experience.

The stream has the largest nomination quota among all AAIP programs, with 3,656 spots in 2025. As of November 19, Alberta has issued 3,120 nominations, leaving 536 spots remaining. The stream currently has 1,100 pending applications in its inventory.

Express Entry — Priority Sectors

On November 14, Alberta held its second healthcare-focused draw of the year under the Alberta Express Entry Stream. In 2025 to date, the province has issued 494 nominations toward its 660-spot allocation for priority sector draws.

As an enhanced PNP pathway, the Express Entry stream allows Alberta to select eligible candidates directly from the federal Express Entry pool. It includes targeted routes for high-demand sectors such as healthcare, construction, aviation, and agriculture, along with dedicated pathways for technology and law-enforcement professionals.

Higher nomination capacity in 2025

Alberta recently confirmed that its annual nomination cap has increased from 4,875 to 6,603 for 2025 — an addition of 1,728 spots. This raises the province’s capacity to roughly 67% of its 2024 allocation, which stood at 9,750 nominations before cuts.

The province has clarified that the extra allocation will not carry over into 2026, meaning the AAIP is expected to issue additional draws throughout the remainder of the year to utilize the expanded quota.
